his expertise and ideas have permeated into the planning and teaching of numeracy. thank you very much for sharing your wealth of knowledge and enjoyment for maths with us all. carnalridge primary school, portrush really beneficial training really beneficial training for all staff. very practical and relevant - timothy plans the training to suit the needs of individual schools. strategies already being implemented j. mckenna principal / st. patrick’s ps glen maghera moving forward in our mental maths one of our recommendations that came out of a numeracy stakeholder (teacher) audit, completed in october 2016, was that ‘more suggested strategies and/or training for staff on mental maths is to be investigated by the numeracy coordinator.’ it was due to this that we looked externally to the services of timothy doyle. after an initial meeting we decided that the best way forward was for timothy to join us on three separate occasions to work with each key stage. during these sessions he worked with teachers and classroom assistants in developing their mental maths and processing teaching habits. timothy also give opportunity to discuss mental maths and gave us numerous ideas and materials to aid us moving forward in our mental maths. martin gault vice principal / waringstown primary school professionalism, expertise and knowledge timothy talked through the different problem solving strategies and highlighted the importance of problem solving in numeracy and how it is used in everyday life. his staff training was appropriate for across the key stages and was very beneficial. the main point i took from the day was to let children explore and explain their thinking, don’t contrive children to working something out just one way, it is essential that they know how to solve problems using different strategies. having analysed our data, it was evident that pupils across the key stages were struggling with problem solving. the numeracy co-ordinator highlighted this on the action plan and we discussed how to address our concerns. i contacted timothy who suggested a plan for a staff development day in cooperating guidance for the co-ordinator, consultation on the action plan, upskilling all staff teaching and non-teaching and resources for implementation. the day was extremely effective with all staff felling much more confident in a range of strategies and enthused about how to incorporate problem solving throughout the curriculum. now that we have reached the end of the school year pupils have completed their end of year assessment i am delighted to report that pupils have increased their performance in this area. i would highly recommend timothy for his professionalism, expertise and knowledge all delivered in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere at a manageable cost. st. john’s ps will definitely use mathsimprovement for staff development in the future. mary haughey principal / st. john’s p.s inspiring and perfectly pitched timothy left my staff with a wealth of techniques and resources to enhance classroom practice. his approach was inspiring and perfectly pitched - thanks timothy for a great inset and we will definitely see you again!!!
